Ken Mellor
first
took to a speedway track at Belle Vue in 1957.
Born
in the United Kingdom, Ken continued his short but eventful career in
speedway riding at both Aldershot and Southampton.
He
considers amongst his riding achievements his best was being appointed
Captain at Aldershot, the photo on the left shows him riding as captain
of his Aldershot team on the 18th June 1960 in a meeting with Ipswich.
Ken's
proudest memory of his speedway riding life was beating Trevor Redmond
on his return to Aldershot, he (Trevor Redmond) had reigned supreme there
in 1950 to 1952 so beating him gave Ken a real sense of achievement. He
also has proud memories of scoring a paid maximum on his first visit to
Bristol.
The
Photo on the right was taken during a Southampton v Ipswich meeting at
Southampton on the 12th July 1960.
When
it comes to the riding memory he would rather forget it was hitting the
fence at Leicester on the 4th bend of the last lap.
Ken
Mellor retired from riding in 1960 and is a valued member of the World Speedway Riders Association.
