Dave Morton

Dave Morton, nicknamed Mort or Big Mort started his speedway riding profession in 1971 at Belle Vue.

Born in the United Kingdom he rode for a number of teams during his 16 speedway career including Crewe, Hackney, Wolves, Sheffield, Newcastle and Long Eaton.

The photo on the left shows Dave as a team member of the Wolverhampton Wolves.

David lists the achievements he remembers as becoming New Zealand Champion, being a member of the Team that were League Champions in 1972 (Crewe) He was also a member of the England Test Team in 1975.

When asked what he was most proud of during his speedway career and he replied his career itself and felt that being able to earn a living from speedway racing was something he has always be proud of.

It would seem that Dave enjoyed every moment of his time in speedway except perhaps that time he describes as his worse memory, breaking his leg at Hackney.

Dave Morton retired from riding in 1987 and is now a member of the World Speedway Riders Association.

The photograph to the left shows Dave in track action for Crew and is circa 1974
