There were two Guests of Honour invited to the Scottish dinner, Brian Collins and Derek Close but sadly Derek was not well enough to undertake the journey. As March is the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of Derek and his wife Hazel the Scottish Committee had bought them a silver Quaich (Scottish drinking cup) which they were going to present at the dinner along with a bunch of flowers. Because they were unable to be at the dinner Bert Harkins volunteered to accept them on Derek and Hazel’s behalf and deliver them on his way back home. |

Bert called on them at their home in Sedbergh, Cumbria to hand the gifts over and arranged to have the photos taken at the same time. I am sure the whole of the World Speedway Riders’ Association members would like to add their best wishes to those of the Scottish membership and wish Derek improved health and them both the warmest wishes for their 60th wedding anniversary.
