Northern Lunch - Halifax

August 14th 2005

This was held at The Imperial Crown Hotel in Halifax and there was an attendance of almost 60 for the lunch.  Guest of Honour was NIGEL BOOCOCK visiting from Queensland, “Down Under” along with his wife Cynthia.  Brother Eric along with Diane also came along, even though it meant that he had to give up his Sunday Trials meeting- quite a sacrifice for Eric. Amongst the other ex riders were, one of the early “Dukes” Bill Crossland who told us what it was like in his day, Jack Winstanley, Russ Hodgson, visiting from the Caribbean, Dave Gatenby, Pete Wrathall, Edgar Stangeland, Alan Jay, Doug Wyer, Eric Boothroyd, Johnny Greenwood, Des Haswell, along with Sheffield Promoter Neil Machin, Referee Paul Ackroyd and from Sydney, Graham Hartman well known to visiting riders to OZ for his hospitality to them. (If I missed anyone – sorry!!).  We all enjoyed a nice meal and a pleasant afternoon catching up with old friends (and rivals) and re running a few races. My thanks to Terry Hardaker and Pat for organising the event, they did all of the hard work.
