Hi, Jackie,

Just to say that I enjoyed browsing through the WSRA photo album and seeing the pre-war photos of Scott Michie which were sent in by his daughter, Margaret.

The action shot is great,......Flat out sideways in the deep dirt, leg trailing and wearing a pudding basin helmet with no face mask or goggles. (with his name, he should have been wearing SCOTT goggles but they were not due to be "invented" for a further 30 years!), and crouching over the handlebars, a real ACTION shot.  These pioneer riders were real heroes, especially when you look at the bikes they rode and the gear they wore, even Jason Crump would find it hard to get one of those bikes sideways.

Reading the newspaper cutting in the photo album, it seems that, appropriately enough, Scott Michie came from Scotland and it looks like he was a Globe-Trotting Scotsman long before I ever started on my world travels and in those days, between the wars, travelling must have been very difficult.

Perhaps we will have a "Scottish Hall of Fame" and Scott Michie will be there along with fellow pioneer, Norrie Isbister and the other pre-war riders, so thanks, Margaret for sharing those photos with us here at the
WSRA website.

Also, how about some letters or photos from our other members? I am sure that everyone has a story to tell or a view to share, so don't be shy, get writing and let your fellow members know what you think about the sport now, or when you were involved or what you think about our WSRA and how we can improve, but keep it clean!

Just a wee bit of extra news on the entry for Andy Meldrum in the Profiles section of our website.

Apart from his exploits with Berwick, Andy has the unique position of being the Scottish VSRA's "Official Bagpiper". Yes, Andy blows a pretty mean lament on his bagpipes and, at the annual WSRA Dinner Dance in 2004,  he had the honour of piping in the new President for that year, Jimmy Tannock.

Pity we don't have a Scottish rider in the Grands Prix. I could just see Andy marching into the Millenium Stadium with him, blowing away on his bagpipes whilst the rest of the GP crowd make a stampede for the exit gates!

Dear Sirs,
I was directed to the WSRA during a visit to Somerset Rebels on 9th
September. I have returned to speedway following a 41 year absence - and
am interested in researching some of the history of the 1960 - 1964 years
in Scotland (Edinburgh Monarchs at the Old Meadowbank Stadium).
All your membership categories are directed at Veteran Riders and
Officials - is it not possible for you to create a membership category for
'Veteran Supporters'

Well folks, what do you think? Should we have a Veterans Supporters section, or would that prove to much for our administration to cope with. Is it against the original spirit and desire of those who originally set up the W.S.R.A., I think may be it is. Should we perhaps encourage Veteran Supporters to form their own affiliated association?

Well what do I know, being honored to be a Honorary Member does not really give me a right to an opinion and I would like to know the feeling of the riding and ex-riding members, because they are the core of the Association.

However that apart letters, comments and requests for information on the associations site are not just welcome but encouraged, we have a good deal to learn from spectators, supporters and enthusiasts, their memories and keepsakes are of value and interest to all. JH
